With the rapid rise of technological developments and advancements, it brings to question does the use of this technology help with learning in the classroom? This simple question moves past simple yes or no and, if used, should constantly be monitored to ensure the technology is relevant, meeting students’ needs as well as teacher’s objectives. In order to provide the best experience in the classroom today’s teacher must be aware of and incorporate technology into their personal educational philosophies and pedagogy. A fact which seems so simple yet has been difficult at best as many established teachers evolve their pedagogy at the speed of glacier melting. Technology itself has great bearing on today’s society and relationships†¦show more content†¦The No Child Left Behind Act (2001) and the updated Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA) (2004) brought the use of technology into a greater light. These programs specifici ty and language did all but challenge educators to forego the former authoritarian methodology and drag their feet into the pedagogical philosophies of John Dewey to meet the challenges of the 21st century. These programs may be frowned upon by some but we must recognize how they have helped shape many of today’s pedagogical concepts and teaching strategies, including technology, implemented in the classroom. Technology has had and will continue to have, the ability to transform society and necessity to incorporate into education to, as Bruce, 1998 simply states it, â€Å"†¦learn technology, learn through technology, and learn from technology.† (p. 22) Teachers, not computer technologies themselves, need to take ownership of the responsibility ensuring students learn well with any given technology. Teachers and school leadership must be willing to use the available tools appropriately, integrate into the development of lesson plans and implement in the classroom for it to be successful to support the education of students.
